What AI can do today
Generate short animations and Lottie or vector drafts from text. Produce many variations to compare. Write CSS or Motion code for described effects. Through MCP servers, coding agents such as Claude Code can create and edit animation files in tools like ExodeUI.
What it cannot do well
Feel whether 220 ms or 280 ms is right. Know that a payment screen should be calm and a game reward exuberant. Cover every state: loading, error, empty, interrupted, reduced motion. Keep a product's motion consistent over years.
How the job changes
Less time keyframing, more time deciding, reviewing and building motion systems that AI and developers can follow. Motion designers become directors of motion across the product.
