India has a large design community and a growing number of product companies in fintech, commerce, edtech and SaaS. Most of them now care about motion, but few have a dedicated motion designer, so people who combine UI and motion stand out.
Step 1: UI design basics
Learn Figma well: auto layout, components and prototyping. Motion without good UI underneath does not get hired.
Step 2: motion fundamentals
Study duration, easing curves, springs, staggering and how motion shows cause and effect. Recreate the motion in apps you use daily, such as payment, food delivery and messaging apps, and notice why it works.
Step 3: tools
Pick one tool for interactive motion that ships (Rive, ExodeUI, or ProtoPie for prototypes) and learn After Effects with Lottie export for played animations. Free plans are enough to learn: Figma, Rive, ExodeUI and LottieFiles all have them.
Step 4: a portfolio that shows real states
Five strong pieces beat twenty clips: a toggle with interruptions, a loader with success and failure, an onboarding flow, a payment confirmation and a mascot or empty state. Show them as interactive embeds where possible, with a short write-up of the problem and your decisions.
Step 5: find work
Look at product companies, design agencies and freelance platforms, share work on Dribbble, Behance and LinkedIn, and join local design communities and meetups. Knowing basic HTML, CSS and React helps you talk to developers and get your motion shipped.
We make ExodeUI, which is built in India and free to start.
