Many designers search for this because they want motion without learning After Effects. It is possible today.
Steps
1. Build the animation in Figma: use Figma Motion if your seat has it, Smart Animate between frames, or a series of frames. 2. Install LottieFiles for Figma from the Figma Community. 3. Select the frames or animation and export as Lottie JSON or dotLottie. 4. Preview the result and, if needed, open it in Lottie Creator to adjust easing and timing.
What does not carry over
LottieFiles says it plainly on its plugin page: motion editing is limited to what Figma Motion supports, and prototype interactions stay in Figma or must be rebuilt in code. A click-through prototype becomes a played animation, not an interactive component. dotLottie state machines can add click, hover and press-and-hold behaviour back, configured in Lottie Creator.
Keep files light
Flatten complex vector networks, avoid image fills, and limit effects such as blur and shadows, which may not export the way they look in Figma.
When another route fits better
If the component must respond to app state (loading, error, toggled), a tool that imports your Figma design and adds states may save rework. Rive and ExodeUI both import design work and add state machines; ExodeUI also has a Figma import. We make ExodeUI.
