Motion design in marketing videos is about storytelling. In UI and UX it is about clarity. A drawer that slides from the edge tells you where it lives. A button that presses down tells you the tap registered. A list that animates a removed item tells you what changed.
The four jobs of UI motion
Feedback (your action worked), orientation (where something came from or went), focus (look here) and continuity (this screen is related to the last one). If an animation does none of these, question whether it should exist.
The decisions a motion designer makes
What moves and what stays still. How long it takes: most UI transitions sit between about 150 and 400 ms. Which easing or spring makes it feel right. In what order elements move. What happens if the user interrupts it.
How it reaches the product
Motion is easy to lose in handoff. Teams document it as motion tokens, write specs, share prototypes, or ship runtime files that play the designed animation directly. Rive and ExodeUI take the runtime-file approach; we make ExodeUI.
Motion design vs motion graphics
Motion graphics is animated graphic design for video. UI motion design is part of the product experience and must react to people. Many designers do both, but the tools and constraints differ.
