Frequently asked questions

How do I open a Lottie JSON file?

Drop the .json file onto the viewer above or click Choose file. It plays straight away. You can also open Lottie files in code with the lottie-web library.

Is my Lottie file uploaded anywhere?

No. The viewer reads the file with your browser and plays it locally. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why does my Lottie animation look different from After Effects?

Lottie players support a subset of After Effects features. Some effects, expressions, blend modes and layer styles are missing or render differently. Test in the player your app uses.

How do I find a Lottie file's duration and frame rate?

Open it here and read the info table. Inside the JSON, fr is the frame rate, ip and op are the first and last frames, and duration is (op − ip) ÷ fr seconds.

Can I add interactivity to a Lottie animation?

Lottie itself plays a timeline. For states, inputs and events your code controls, use a tool built around state machines. You can compare options on our Lottie alternatives page.
